Nipa Kutubu MP, Dr Billy Joseph is urging the people of Southern Highlands Province to uphold and respect the rule of law in light of an impending decision on the Election Petition Competency between Governor William Powi and Peter Nupiri.
As leaders of SHP, he said the importance of both parties and their supporters, both in Port Moresby and the province, adhering to the rule of law, regardless of the outcome.
“I intend to attend court this morning to remind both Governor Powi and Peter Nupiri that the people of SHP have already suffered enough from the politics within our province. It is now crucial to embrace and respect the rule of law,” Dr. Billy Joseph said.
He further explained: “If the court’s decision favors Governor Powi, it will effectively conclude the Election Petition. However, it’s important to note that an appeal can be made to the Supreme Court. Conversely, if the decision favors Peter Nupiri, the trial will proceed as planned. Let us prioritize peace and unwavering respect for the rule of law.”
