Escapees recaptured in Manus, 11 prisoners escape from Kerevat

POLICE in Manus have recaptured the five escapees from the 11 that broke out from Correctional Services in Lorengau, Manus last Monday, April 19.

The Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Chief Inspector David Yapu said four of the escapees were recaptured on Thursday night (April 22) and one was recaptured on Friday morning (April 23).

The five recaptured include:

1. Palou Mai from Worei village, Manus charged with Murder

2. Bill Mai from Worei village, Manus, charged with Murder

3. Gordon Bill from Worei village, Manus, charged with murder

4. Jaspar Bobou Kanas from Buyang village, Manus, charged with murder

5. Leeroy Passingan from Sapon village, Manus, charged with Robbery and Break Enter and Stealing.

PPC Yapu again thanked community Leaders and relatives of the escapees who had assisted the Police with the recapture of the 5 escapees.

They are now in Police custody at Lorengau Police Station and will be charged with escaping from CS custody.

Police and CS are continuing with their operations to search for other escapees still at large and on the run.

He appealed to the community to assist Police and provide information on their whereabouts.

Meantime in East New Britain (ENB), 11 high risk prisoners at Kerevat jail dashed for freedom on Friday (April 23).

These prisoners are Adrian Makip, Ben Waruruai, Bradley Apelis, Mason Kevin, Mapua Tobata, Jerry Aquila, Samson Peter, Bartilom Peter, Gabriel Kaka, Charlie Vincent and Wesley Gola.

Details of how they escaped are yet to be made known. Last Friday a public notice was aired on the local radio station making known the names of the escapees and for people to be careful.

Residents in ENB are urged to assist police and report any suspicious behavior.
