Wabag Member of Parliament and Minister for Health, Dr Tom Lino continues to embark on opening up new road networks in his district.
This is to ensure the district links with other nearby communities and villages, including the people of Wapenamanda district, and as a result empower the rural-based economy in agriculture. The Yalu road construction project is special in this regard as it was once a famous traditional trade route connecting Wabag with Aiyale and Tsak Valley in the Wapenamanda district.
This traditional trade route extends into the Tambul Valley in Western Highlands Province and eventually into Ialibu-Pangia and Erave in the Southern Highlands.Dr Lino said the road construction is progressing well. “The people from upper Aiyale Valley will now have a shortcut into Wabag,” he said.
The second-term MP said the availability of quality gravel quarries in these areas will ensure the sealing of the road is not hindered, unlike other recent projects, where the availability of gravel was an issue. Dr Lino acknowledged project team leader Andrew Kanan and his hardworking staff for ensuring the project is completed on time.
The Yule road project is a continuation of the completed Birip-Aiyale Valley road. With the project, Wabag district is now the first district in Enga to have all the council wards in its three constituencies connected by road.
