Media told to act positively

BY MIRIAM MALAWA

PETROLEUM and Energy Minister Hon Kerenga Kua has called on the media to always showcase a positive image of the country.

Kua emphasized that the role of the media in projecting a positive image of the nation is a must, instead of solely focusing on negative news.

He pointed out that there have been several negative reports in the media, and it was high time for the media to promote positive news to restore and rebuild confidence in the people.

Kua questioned: “If we don’t do it, who will do it?”

He said promoting positivity requires real action and positive news that people can connect with, and urged the media to focus on portraying a positive image of the country.

He also emphasized that the media is essential in driving messages from leaders across the nation.

Minister Kua added that promoting negativity can create a negative attitude in people, and he urged the media to promote a “can do” attitude.

He also pointed out that the country has achieved a lot in the nearly 50 years of independence, and yet these achievements are not celebrated enough.

“And if you promote negativity about positivity then our people will feel negativity all the time. But if you promote the positivity then you promote a ‘can do’ type of attitude that yeah, the challenge is there but we can do it, we can rise above it all,” Kua said.

Kua called on the media to instill self-pride and dignity in the people and to play a positive role in portraying a positive image of the country.

He added: “Let’s be our own best ambassadors.
