Minister Maru Praises Kusambuk Community

Minister for International Trade and Investment & Yangoru-Saussia MP, Hon. Richard Maru praised the Kusambuk community of his district in East Sepik Province for setting a new pace in the district by taking ownership to build a new 4-in-1 world-class classroom for their primary school. The community contributed money to build the classroom before calling on their local MP to support them. Minister Maru described this as a new Kusambuk formula “mi putim na gavman kam bihain” (I contribute, and the Government comes in to support).

“In my 11 years as the Yangoru-Sasusia MP, Kusambuk Primary School is the first school in my entire district where the parents and the community contributed money to start a project like this. When I heard of their contribution, I quickly rushed in to support them because I want to encourage such spirit in all the schools in the district. I want this to be a new culture in the Yangoru-Saussia District,” said Minister Maru.

The new world-class 4-in-1 classroom fully fitted with furniture was officially opened yesterday by Minister Maru. The classroom cost almost K300, 000 to complete, half of which was the community’s contribution.

“Such community deserves recognition; hence, the Yangoru-Saussia District Development Authority will give K2 million to Kusambuk Primary School next year for their school fence and water supply,” said Minister Maru.

Minister Maru also thanked Kusambuk Primary School for the many elites it has produced over the years.

“Kusambuk Primary School has a record of producing many educated elites of this district. I want to thank the school for its proud history since pre-independence,” said Minister Maru.

Minister Maru added that Yangoru-Saussia DDA under his leadership will continue to invest in education under the district’s vision of “God First and Education Second” and he also appealed to other schools in the district to follow the example set by Kusambuk Primary School.
