MOROBE Governor Luther Wenge has opened two teachers’ houses and announced plans to elevate schools in Nawaeb, Morobe Province.
He officiated at the opening of the two houses, which cost K70,000, at Wana Primary School.
The event was witnessed by Nawaeb District Chief Executive Officer Buds Botike and Boana District Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELC) Bishop, Reverend Sokeka Tawaman.
During the launching, Wenge announced plans to engage foreign teachers and elevate the status of schools, allowing for better student-learning opportunities.
“Gom Primary School in Erap will be changed to Erap Junior High School, while Wana Primary School in Wain will be elevated to Boana Junior High School,” he said.
“Kasanombe Primary School in Nabak LLG will be changed to Nabak Junior High School, while Busong Primary School, in Labuta LLG in Nawaeb District, will be changed to Labuta Junior High School.
“Boana Technical High School will become Boana Technical Secondary School, Bumayong Lutheran Secondary School will be changed to Bumayong National School of Excellence, while Wawin National School of Excellence will be changed to Morobe University.
Wenge said as the governor and provincial minister for education, he would make funds available to ensure that the schools meet the requirements of upgrading their status.
“I would like to see quality human resources that can become agents of change in our communities,” he said.
Wenge urged school boards and headteachers to collaborate with his office on the necessary costs of meeting the requirements for elevating their schools’ status.
