MEMBER for Nawaeb Hon. Theo Pelgen has distributed K130, 000 independence funds to all council wards in his district.
He said for the first time, all 47 wards in Wain/Erap, Nabak, Labuta and Ahi Urban Local Level Governments have benefited from this funds with each ward receiving K2500.
“These funds were distributed to all celebrations happening from 15th to 16 September under discretionary social support for the district activities,” Peglen said.
“We encourage the community as a whole to discuss on the usage of funds, either for assistance to the school, church or any other required infrastructure within their ward.”
The MP stressed that doing this will allow contribution from community as a whole to any development within their ward that allows everyone to participate equally and thus will lead to peace and harmony within the community.
Church representative of Nawaeb District Development Authority (NDDA), Mr Eric Mantaung, was responsible for distributing funds for Wain/Erap LLG wards.
He confirmed that all funds were distributed successfully to all the 16 wards in Wain/Erao LLG.
“We began distributing at Erap side from Sibi, Tinibe, Guenmbung, Rabisap and finishing at Lowai on Friday 15th of September.
“The next day we covered the Wain side beginning from Posa, then to Gaing, Bandong, Wana, Popof, Gwambot, Peter Ryan, Boana Station and Gaing Primary School,” Mr. Mantaung said.
He said all ward councilors and ward committees had signed documents at each location before handing the money.
Mr Mantaung said most of the Independence Day celebrations for Wain/Erap LLG were held at schools where children and family took part in sporting activities and flag rising ceremonies.
Mr. Pelgen emphasized that his leadership encourages transparency and accountability of all public funds and that all funds that were given must be reported back with acquittals this year onwards.
“We took this approach because previously the funds earmarked for Independence Day were not given down to the people on the ground.
“In the past, only few wards came back with acquittal reports,” the MP said.
