Para athletes set for Oceania game

DANNY Ten, a para-athlete from Ialibu Pangia District, Southern Highlands Province, is looking forward for the Oceania Championships in Western Australia at the end of this month.

He attended his first international event in February of 2020 in Melbourne where the PNG contingent collected four medals – two bronze and two silver.
In July 2022, they went for the Oceania Championships in Melbourne which resulted in one bronze.
This year they will attend two events that will be hosted in Perth, Western Australia.

The para-athletes first completion will be from September 29th to October 1, and will be followed by the para badminton competition from October 2-6.
The six-man para-athletes team comprises of three boys and three girls, four of whom are newcomers and two are experienced.

At the moment, the team is fundraising for their uniforms and other items in preparation for their travel.
Ten said the Australian government has been supporting the team since its inaugural competition in 2020.
They will be departing today before the competition starts on the 29th September.
