PNG Customs delivers milestone project in Daru

THE Papua New Guinea Customs Service has delivered another milestone project in Daru, Western Province, in an attempt to strengthen the border security.

The project comprised of Daru Boat Shed Facility, two stabicraft boats, and a Landcruiser to be used by Customs Enforcement Officers to patrol the waters of Daru and respond to border security issues.

Chief Commissioner of Customs David Towe said: “Daru is a strategic port for our country where we share borders with Australia to the south and Indonesia to the west, however, it is also a challenging one to manage with very limited resources.”

“With limited resources, we have tried our best to manage this very important Port and hope these resources will make our jobs a little easier to ensure border security and enforcement is strengthened.

“In our efforts to work in partnership with other key stakeholders, we also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Western Provincial Government.

“The Provincial Administrator, Deputy Provincial Administrator and part of their leadership team were in attendance to sign the MOU and witness the commissioning event,” the Commissioner said.
