Officer Cadets of the Royal PNG Constabulary (RPNGC) will now be trained in leadership in the Public Service thanks to the partnership with Somare Institute of Leadership And Governance (SILAG).
The cadets will undertake these courses covering a range of topics from leadership and management to technical and operational skills. They are
1. Public service ethics
2. Compliance with legislation
3. Project management
4. Recruitment and selection
5. Budget preparation and expenditure monitoring
6. Strategic planning.
In accepting the cheque of K228, 000 from Bomana Police School of Excellence from Director Training Superintendent Maria Johns, SILAG Chief Executive Officer Michael Barobe said that he was happy to work with the Bomana Police School of Excellence. “We thank School’s Commandant Assistant Commissioner John Kolopan for his insight for working in with us. We will develop these six units that your officers will be qualified as public servants after they complete the courses to be competent Leaders in the public services. Police School of Excellent is good to us. We have train many police officers at SILAG”.
And Superintendent Johns in handing over the cheque last Tuesday at SILAG said “As you are already aware, our goals at national Center of Excellence are to train and develop future leaders of the RPNGC who will be able to make a meaningful impact in their respective sections. To this end we have constantly been striving to enhance our training program so that our cadet officers can receive the best training program in all aspects of leadership and management”.
“Today our efforts has been acknowledges through the assistance of the SILAG we are here today to witness the presentation of the cheque for the payment of six short course which will be included in the cadet officer training package .these courses are essential to the development of our cadets officers and are designed to equipped them with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in their career with not only the RPNGC but in the public work force”.
“By completing these courses we are preparing the cadet officers to take up the challenges of their roles the knowledge acquired from these courses will pay dividend in the years to come. The national center of excellence has been an accredited to Departments of Higher Education Research Science and Technology and it is mandatory requirements to meet the NOQ to conduct such training”.
“The national center of excellence will deliver these courses to the cadet officers with a diploma in leadership and management in policing”.
