ACTING Speaker of Parliament Koni Iguan today announced, before the commencement of Parliament’s sitting, that Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae has travelled overseas on official duties.

Mr. Iguan informed Members of Parliament that, in accordance with the Constitution, Speaker of the National Parliament Job Pomat has assumed the role of Acting Governor-General for the duration of Sir Bob Dadae’s absence from the country.

With Mr. Pomat carrying out the responsibilities of the Governor-General, Mr. Iguan will serve as Acting Speaker of Parliament and preside over parliamentary proceedings until Sir Bob returns to Papua New Guinea and Mr. Pomat resumes his duties as Speaker.

The temporary appointments ensure the continued operation of the Office of the Governor-General and the National Parliament while the Head of State is away on official travel.

No further details regarding Sir Bob Dadae’s overseas itinerary or the duration of his overseas visit were announced.
