Powi, Marape pledge support to synod

GOVERNOR for Southern Highlands Province (SHP) has made a commitment to support the Lutheran Church to host the 34th Evangelical Lutheran Church’s National Synod.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG’s Emmanuel District will host the National Synod in Ialibu District, SHP, on the third week of this month. It hopes to gather thousands of Lutheran faithfuls all around the country.
Powi made the commitment of K100,000 during Prime Minister James Marape’s visit to Kagua Erave last December.
Marape on behalf of the government committed K200 000 to the Emmanuel district as well.

Both the PM and Governor appealed to young men and women to go into church and find hope in Jesus Christ and attend the second chance education such as, Flexible Open Distance Education (FODE), Matriculations and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Meanwhile, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG’s Emmanuel District have started preparations already and is expected to receive 50 officials from each of the church’s 17 districts and 4000-plus participants including believers, observers from around the country and overseas visitors as well.

Visitors from countries such as; Australia, America, Germany, Jordan, Isreal and others are also expected to attend.

It is said that the event would also see the election of the new church executives, normally appointed every four years.

Other Members of Parliaments and local MPs have made their commitment to support the Emmanuel district who last hosted the Synod in 1982.
