Raka Kauko Junior, prepares for international comeback in Vietnam

THE lightweight boxing champion from Papua New Guinea (PNG) is gearing up to make a comeback in the international boxing arena in Vietnam in July. Raka Kauko Junior, an active professional boxer based in Port Moresby, is seeking assistance to participate in an upcoming boxing event against a Chinese opponent.Originally scheduled to face Tran Van Thao of Vietnam, Raka’s bout was unfortunately canceled.

However, he has now been set to fight Axio Tu Su on July 15, 2023. In order to support his preparations and cover the expenses of traveling to and from Vietnam, Raka will be hosting a fundraising dinner on Friday, June 30, 2023.The fundraising dinner will take place at Heritage Café in Port Moresby, and it will feature former Mixed Martial Arts World champion Adrian “The Hunter” Pang as the special guest.

Additionally, Mr Peter Tsiamlili Junior, Minister for Internal Security and a boxing supporter, will be attending as a guest speaker. The dinner table for ten people is available for sale at the price of K5,000, and attendees will receive free merchandise.Expressing his thoughts on the upcoming fight, Raka acknowledged the skills of his opponent, Axio.

“Axio is a great fighter and he will be coming strong to face me so I need to work hard to face him,” Raka said.He emphasized the need to work hard and prepare thoroughly to face him. Raka mentioned that he has been training well, building on his previous international match in the Philippines. He expressed gratitude towards his coach, Ephraim Montoru, and trainer Nelson John, for their guidance in improving his ring movement.

“I am doing well in training building on from my last international match in Philippines. I am now working with my coach Ephraim Montoru and trainer Nelson John on how to move around in the ring. I’m also thankful to train with PNG national coach Mark for also assisting me.” Raka is currently affiliated with Pro-Media promotion and is putting in his best efforts to prepare for the upcoming fights.

However, he lacks a sponsor and thus appeals to businesses, government entities, and individuals who are interested in supporting him to come forward and contribute, making his travel to Vietnam possible.
