To my people of Mendi Munhiu, as we celebrate our 48th Independence, let us make every effort to reflect on the journeys we have made, the steps we took and the choices we have made, either right ones or the bad ones, they brought us to where we are today.
Let us reconcile our differences and work together towards a more better, prosperous Mendi Munhiu that all of us envisioned it to be, and to rekindle the fires of hope and prayer and to stand confident in the knowledge that, even as manifold challenges abound, if ‘together we aspire, together we achieve’.
Unfortunately, the big town gathering I proposed was canceled in respect to the passing of late. Ban Walom. The Chief of Ujamap, Undiri and the Phapha Tribe.
I encourage our people to live independently, growing their own family, business, and personal life.
Life is short, and it’s my encouragement to live a peaceful life with a life filled with joy, peace, and love. As your member, I’m here to support you in making sure our education, health, and other infrastructure development agendas are achieved.
I am here to make sure Law and Order issues are addressed and the sector is well funded and equipped. To ensure that local SMEs are funded through subsidies and that strategies are workable, that must and will produce results.
Our District Roads Development Agenda :
We will link Mendi Munhiu by roads and not just roads but better roads to all council wards and LLGs.
The Sumia Munhiu road will be sealed whilst Kip Shumbi and Imihoma Honda Road construction’s are progressing.
We will connect Marara and Sumbol whilst Sengso Ingil Komba in Kandep will be connected.
Ekari Kondipa is also under the tendering process. Mosup Melant, Peol Imila Heiyep are going to be funded. Maintenance of Bush Karinz ring road and Wambip Tulum Oleaya and Hum will get funding.
Our District Education Infrastructure Development Agenda:
Mendi Secondary and Mogol Secondary School must get their glory days back by improved quality education. Lai Valley High School will eventually be given a face lift upgrade to a technical secondary school with K40m infrastructure development.
Mendi School of Nursing is getting a K20m face lift infrastructure development whilst we do a greater scrutiny to the administration, so both work together.
Our primary and high schools will receive continued yearly support.
Our District Health Development Agenda:
5 ambulances for our health facilities were bought. Every Health Centres in the District will receive an Ambulances each.
Kip Health Centre will be elevated to District Hospital whilst Mendi General Hospital remains as a referral hospital.
Law and Justice Sector:
A police house will be built in Munhiu.
A vehicle for Village Court was bought with Z plate and transparent windscreen (glasses).
A vehicle for District Court was bought with Z plate and transparent windscreen (glasses).
A vehicle for awareness on all social issues was bought with Z plate and transparent windscreen (glasses).
In terms of Administration:
Munhiu and Map will get district office status.
A vehicle for District Treasury was bought with Z plate and transparent windscreen (glasses).
A vehicle for the District Administrator was bought with Z plate and transparent windscreen (glasses).
In Terms of Agriculture:
I want all families to plant 1000 coffee trees each. Those have it must increase planting. I have employed an Agriculture Specialist who will work with our current staff to improve on the area of coffee and other agricultural activities.
Fish in upper Mendi will be commercialized. Fisheries Minister is coming in to support.
The airport, sealing of town, court house completion, and Muruk Lodge Rehabilitation are major priority projects for our DDA supported and co-funded by SHPG
Churches:
To the churches, this year alone, the MMDDA has allocated K1.3m worth of projects and assistance to our local churches. The churches plays important roles and they deserve recognition and funding.
Let’s pray for those who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make all these happen.
English playwright, John Heywood’s saying that “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” is a reminder of the fact that it requires time and patience to create something big and great. Therefore, some of our development agendas can be achieved in a short span of time while some will not not be achieved overnight but will be achieved eventually.
