Tokua celebrates weather service

THE National Weather Service in East New Britain has celebrated the World Meteorological Day with a difference on March 23, 2023.

This year’s theme: “The Future of Weather, Climate and Water across Generations”, included all weather stations across the country through a Zoom meeting link, which connected all out-stations to participate in the event in Port Moresby.

Meteorological Observer for the National Weather Service in East New Britain, Daisy Pirou, said the celebration showcased the essential contributions of national meteorological and hydrological services to the safety and well-being of society.

The Meteorological World Day focuses on tropical weather, climate, water-related issues and the exchange of weather information across national borders.

Pirou said weather services are based at airports because they also deal with aviation weather.

They provide information to the general public through the media, as well as to agriculture and construction companies for their data.
