Secretary for Community Development Jerry Ubase highlights the critical importance of establishing effective coordination within the department to ensure the successful implementation and operationalisation of policies. During an interview with the Sunday Bulletin, he emphasised the need for the department to revamp its programmes and mandates to align with the recently-launched Medium-Term Development Plan 4 (MTDP4).
“We aim to improve coordination between the national and sub-national levels,” Ubase said.
“The government has made significant efforts by establishing the public service missionary from the national level down to the district.
“However, there is still a missing link that we need to address.” With the presence of approximately five or six district community development centers in different districts and public units, Ubase highlights the department’s focus on this area.
“We will now subscribe to the MTDP4,” he said.“This commitment requires a comprehensive review and adjustment of all programmes and activities to align with the goals outlined in the MTDP4.”
Ubase said the forthcoming launch of the department’s corporate plan and operational plans, will also align with government priorities.
Regarding their approach, Ubase mentions the need for change in areas where previous efforts have not yielded satisfactory results which he said gender-based violence and sorcery-related violence will be the department’s main focus.
“The missing link in terms of coordination poses a significant challenge to fully implementing and operationalising these policies,” he said.“Consequently, the department is keen on addressing this gap and optimising their efforts.”
